BETWEEN MOUNTAINS AND LAKES

There are good reasons why the first tourists to visit the Bernese Oberland alighted at the Stadthaus Unterseen. In fact it was difficult to get to Unterseen and then Interlaken, so guests arrived by boat from the Lake of Thun and then went further by carriage into the town centre. It was fashionable to tour the wild alpine region and to find inspiration from the breathtaking surroundings. Nowadays Interlaken is easy to reach, it is easily and quickly accessible by car from practically most places in Switzerland, by train direct from Paris or Berlin and Milan is practically around the corner. The area between the Thun and Brienz lakes is a magnet for tourists and has the highest international presence. And in the middle, now as then: the Stadthaus Unterseen.

IN THE CENTRE OF THE OLD TOWN

The square known as the Stadthausplatz Unterseen is surrounded by historic houses and exudes urban charm. In the centre is the powerful Stadthaus and the restaurant and terrace are located on the ground floor. The square is bordered by more restaurants, cafes and stores as well as the town museum. Unterseen and Interlaken are only divided by the river Aare, which can be seen foaming boisterously through the two towns. The river is only a few steps away from the old town. If coming by car, there is parking available near the restaurant.
